Master of Social Work
Master of Social Work is the full form of MSW. MSW is a specialised postgraduate programme that covers macro and micro components of professional social work practises in community settings, hospitals, schools, and other social service settings. In India, the MSW programme lasts two years.
Candidates can enrol in the MSW programme after obtaining a bachelor’s degree in a related field with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised university. MSW Admissions in 2022 will be based on either a merit list or an admission exam. MSW Eligibility requires students to have earned a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline.
The MSW Syllabus is divided into 4 semesters. The core subjects of the MSW Syllabus are Human Growth and Development, Ideology and Ethics of Social Work, Poverty Reduction, Micro Finance and Micro Enterprises, etc.
Eligibility
The basic eligibility required is the following:
- Completed Bachelor of Social Work (BSW) from a recognized college with a minimum of 50% marks.
- Candidates belonging to the reserved category are provided with a relaxation of 5% in the minimum percentage of aggregate marks obtained.
- Students from Humanities/Social Science/Science/Management and other backgrounds are also eligible for the MSW course if they have scored a minimum of 50% from a recognized college or institute.
- As mentioned above the candidates also have to qualify the entrance exam if any.
NOTE- This eligibility criterion may vary from institute-wise.
Details of Admission Process
Admissions are done on the basis of marks obtained in the graduation level. In some cases admissions are done based on entrance examinations. The Common Admission Test or Skill Assessment Test, is followed by GD and Personal Interview. Check the MSW Admission Process for more.
Candidates can directly apply for a course by filling the online application form or submitting it during the application process.
Merit based Admission Process
- The candidates in the case of admission through merit list have to visit the college website and fill up their application form with the necessary details.
- The supporting documents must be submitted in the necessary format
- The candidates must complete their application process by paying the fees for the application form.
- Candidates must visit the college website on a time to time basis to check the merit list.
- Colleges generate a cut off list that indicates the minimum percentage required for admission, like they do at Delhi University.
- Candidates can complete the admission process by paying the admission fee, if they make it to the merit list.
Entrance Based Examination
- In case of entrance based admission, the candidates must visit the agency’s or university’s website.
- After completing the registration process the candidates must submit the necessary documents in the correct format and submit the application fees.
- They take an Entrance Test to judge a candidate’s skills and critical thinking ability.
- After the declaration of a test result, a Personal Interview or Group Discussion takes place which further helps the college admission committee to screen students.
- After all these rounds, selected candidates are notified via email or a merit list is generated based on their ability, skills, and the number of seats in that particular college.
